all that you hear is all that is heard
Strange beautiful voids have now become an uncomfortable reality as we look down from our windows into empty streets; only a few people scuffling through. While we hide away and isolate ourselves in our homes and studios, we must think creatively in order to nurture our need for social interaction and intimacy.
all that you hear is all that is heard is a site specific work set within the iconic Nicholas Building, an experiment in sound and storytelling. Since the 1920s, the Nicholas building has been a vibrant hub for creative practitioners, makers and designers.
This project began as a site specific work set within the iconic Nicholas Building, curated by Rachel Paintin from Nite Art..Following a development and showing supported by Chamber Made’s Little Operations program in 2019, TLSQ are working towards a 2021 live season of all that you hear is all that is heard.
Playing with audio and musical illusions and allusions, TLSQ present interwoven stories and recordings collected from tenants of the building, past and present.
In the meantime and in a world forced to slow down and create physical distance, the quartet have created a deep online listening experience: Always The Same & Layer Upon Layer
These two interactive web videos visit the world of the Nicholas building, absorbing its history and finding hope for its future.

Always The Same looks at how subtle shifts in sound over time can determine how you feel within a space.
Layer Upon Layer pays tribute to the many tenants who have spent time in the Nicholas Building forming a creative and dynamic community. The layers of sound in this music are designed so that each listen will be slightly and subtly different, with shifting layers. This echoes the proposed live experience in 2021 where each journey through the building to Missing Persons will be a different aural and visual adventure.
